This detailed biography describes the work, ideas, and impact of Masanobu Fukuoka, the Japanese farmer and philosopher (1913-2008) who wrote The One-Straw Revolution in 1978. Fukuoka’s book advocated for a new approach to agriculture using no machinery, no chemicals, and no weeding. Larry Korn, the author of this biography, worked and studied with Masanobu Fukuoka for 35 years in Japan and the US. Korn explains how Masanobu Fukuoka’s method, called natural farming, is different from organic farming, permaculture, and traditional Japanese farming. Korn describes his travels in Japan learning from Fukuoka and also chronicles his travels with Fukuoka to the US. The book contains color and b&w photos from Korn’s collection.
