Introduction

Tim Freke is an internationally respected philosopher, prolific author, and consummate authority on world spirituality. In this teaching, Tim Freke invites us to question our current understandings of body, soul, spirit, and love—and shift our consciousness into what he calls the ‘deep awake’ state.

Learning Objectives

In this teaching, you will:

  • Evaluate the “deep awake” state of spiritual awareness
  • Reconcile the paradox of duality (separateness) and non-duality (oneness)
  • Compare the perspectives of science and spirituality
  • Analyze the three levels of awareness—body, soul and spirit

Guiding Thoughts

Before listening to the modules in this teaching, please reflect on the following questions:

  • Tim Freke says, “The people who are the most certain are the most dangerous.” Do you agree or disagree? Why? What point do you think he is trying to make by mentioning this?
  • Tim Freke had a spontaneous awakening at age 12, which he now describes as the “deep awake” state. Have you ever had an experience like this? What do you know or believe about spiritual awakenings?
  • We are all one. We are also separate beings, each having unique experiences. How can this paradox be possible? What do you believe about universal oneness versus individual separateness?
  • Tim Freke says, “A philosopher is someone who hasn’t grown up, someone who’s still asking, ‘Yeah, but what is it?’” Do you agree? Why or why not? Do you still possess any childlike curiosity?

As you listen to the modules in this teaching, actively take notes of any ideas or questions that come to you. You may listen to the modules as many times as you like.
