This week is full of powerful astral alignments, holidays, holy days, and the symbolism of new beginnings. Shrove Tuesday, celebrated as Mardi Gras, is the day before the beginning of the Christian observance of Lent, known as Ash Wednesday. The observance of the Christian tradition of Lent calls for a sacrifice, just as Christ was sacrificed on the cross. Some people practice a discipline of giving up something for lent, such as eating meat or sugar. Ash Wednesday happens to fall on St. Valentine’s Day, the day we celebrate our love relationships. On Thursday, February 15, a partial eclipse of the Sun occurs at 27:08 degrees of Aquarius, which also marks the Chinese New Year of the Dog. At the end of this week on Sunday, the Sun shifts from Aquarius to Pisces, the last sign in the zodiacal cycle.

Be Ready to Tackle a Big Project at the Start of the Week

In contrast to Saturday’s optimistic, explorative, but indefinite energy, Sunday is made for focus, work and attending to responsibilities. You can tackle a big project, and yet relax a little in the evening in preparation for a strong workday on Monday.

Monday’s Moon-Pluto conjunction packs a powerful punch. This is a day to engage vigorously in work. A benefic Moon-Jupiter sextile widens our perspective and gives optimism. You could continue to tackle the big project that you started yesterday. As the day wears on, we may veer off course with the Moon-Uranus square in the evening. Keep an open mind and be prepared to turn sideways to take advantage of new ideas and opportunities.

The Midweek Aquarius Moon Symbolizes Progressive Ideas

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the Moon is in Aquarius, the fixed air sign symbolizing progressive ideas, new perspectives and friendly relations with all. Aquarius calls us to the higher plane of perspective, inclusion and acceptance. Tuesday the Sun forms a benefic sextile to Uranus, amplifying themes of invention, innovation and appreciation of diversity. This Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, the day before lent that claims celebration, just before the sacrifice called for during the period of Lent that begins the next day. In preparation for the Chinese or Lunar New Year on Friday, those honoring that tradition clean house and beautify it with fruits and flowers.

Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, is also Valentine’s Day. It is also the darkest night of the Moon. Astronomically, this is the time of the month when we want to withdraw from the busy world, incubate and prepare for the rebirth in the light of the New Moon. Yet, Valentine’s Day is the day for the expression of love. You may want to make this a simple Valentine’s Day, one to stay close to home. Mars makes a benefic sextile to the Moon, calling us to express our ardent feelings for those we love.

A Partial Solar Eclipse occurs Thursday when the Sun and Moon align at 27:07 Aquarius, near the South Node, Mercury and Juno. We are called to see the bigger picture through access to our higher minds. We can transform our thinking and re-envision. This New Moon also calls us to let go of something that no longer serves us to make way for something new. Mercury and Juno, the asteroid symbolizing mate and marriage, are also eclipsed. Drop into deeper communion with yourself, your thoughts and your relationships.

Friday’s Energy of Kindness and Compassion Ushers in the Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year is Friday, February 16, the day after the New Moon in Aquarius. The Moon conjuncts Venus and Neptune, heralding a beautiful energy of compassion and kindness.

The Weekend Will Be Dreamy and Contemplative

Saturday is an active, visionary day with numerous aspects. The Moon is in uplifting, dreamy Pisces. The Moon is Void of Course (VoC) at 2:13pm PST until Sunday morning. This would be a good day to relax, tend your garden, and then enjoy a romantic dinner with your beloved.

The Sun enters Pisces tropically on Sunday morning, ushering in a month of self-reflection, solitude, meditation and tuning into the greater vibration of the cosmos. Venus entered Pisces the evening before, amplifying the energy in this effusive direction, as Venus is exalted, or highest functioning in Pisces. The month ahead supports compassion and contemplation, and listening to the subtle, intuitive messages that come through.

The Week in Short

Saturday: Moon VoC all day from 8:38am to 6:21pm PST. Take off on an adventure and explore something new.

Sunday: Workday! Focus and tackle a big project. Relax a little in the evening and appreciate all that you accomplished.

Tuesday: We are called to inclusion, vision and innovation, and the acceptance of all diverse beings.

Saturday: Uplifting, dreamy day. Moon VoC at 2:13pm PST, so do things that don’t require connections such as meetings.
