A white gloss ceramic hand with gold detail, custom-made for Bodhi Tree
We’re drawn in by the white and gold on this “all-seeing eye” hand. This tiny sculpture was created as a holder of precious things, whether on an altar, dresser or desk. This hand can be used for draping strands of tiny crystals and stones, or holding rings.
The open right hand symbolizes blessings, power and strength, and is often seen as a force in deflecting the evil eye. It’s a sign of protection as well, and with the separated fingers, is said to ward off evil (closed fingers would signal good luck). The maker uses a slip cast to craft this ceramic stoneware. It’s an original design, high-fired in glossy white glaze with the eye in 22k gold luster applied ahead of a third firing. It’s a holder of precious items like jewelry or a standalone sculpture with great energy for a sacred space.
The artist behind this socially responsible and environmentally conscious collection of clay sculpture, Mike McDowell, works to keep his sculptures simple. He also creates items that he would buy himself. His work stems from a place of great intention—laid off from a day job as a web designer, he not only crafts pieces of art, but crafted a more balanced life by turning his hobby into a business. He has since partnered with another artist, Chase Buerck, to meet growing demand for his art.
