Hasami Porcelain Sugar Pot

Stackable porcelain sugar pot handmade in Japan

Description

Why We Love This

Made from porcelain mixed with potter’s clay, this sugar pot features a notch in the edge to rest a spoon against. We love that the sugar pot can be topped with a Hasami wood tray and stack easily with the Hasami milk pitcher or mugs.

Story

The company behind the Hasami collection, Saikai, was founded in 1946 in Nagasaki, Japan, an area that’s been known for its porcelain since the 17th century. To this day, Saikai is famous for its timeless form-follows-function aesthetic. Designed by Taku Shinimoto, the collection combines contemporary lines and centuries-old Japanese pottery techniques. Since the Hasami line is handmade by Japanese artisans, each piece features slight variations in colors and texture that make it unique. Dishwasher and microwave safe, the black sugar pot’s interior and exterior are glazed with natural edges, while the natural color is unglazed throughout. Both colors feature a slightly mottled look.
