Known for its detoxifying and antibacterial benefits, Binchotan, also called white charcoal, is a refined carbon that is a natural detoxifier. Place a piece of charcoal in a pitcher and fill with water to filter. We love that it is an ancient Japanese practice that is just as effective now.
A natural detoxifier, Binchotan is created by burning oak branches at extremely high temperatures for several days and then rapidly cooling them. During this process, the structure of the wood becomes carbonized, and microscopic cavities are left in the wood that can that trap atmospheric impurities. When placed in a pitcher of water, the result is clarified water. A traditional charcoal of Japan dating back to the Edo period, Binchotan is believed to contribute to a complete state of wellbeing by absorbing chemicals while activating a healthy atmosphere.
