Five vintage colored pencils are straight from the streets of Rome. This paper envelope, handmade from half-century-old paper, holds a collection of colorful pencils culled from an Italian stationer’s shop, from the 1930s to the 1970s.
Antica Cartotecnica has been making and selling first-rate writing tools since 1930 and is run by the same family, whose commitment to quality persists, even in these simple pencils. These five wood pencils are snugly set with elastic loops in a lovely colored envelope made from rich Italian paper. Easy to grab and go, put this packet in a bag or pocket on the way out the door to sketch or jot on a moment’s notice. This selection of colors inspires us to lay the screens, tablets and phones aside for a moment to reflect and follow the age-old practice of putting pencil to paper.
Antica Cartotecnica, fine stationers, was opened in 1930 by the current owner’s grandmother. Located in a landmark location in Rome, Italy that sits between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, it’s still a family-run business. Dedicated to the ancient art of writing, they’ve established their own line of notebook, planners and journals, all handmade with the finest papers by Italian artisans.
