Why We Love This

With a hazelnut-stained, hand-cut, fitted cedar lid, this hand-sewn, cloth-wrapped and beautifully lined box was designed to store mail—either just received or letters ready for mailing. We appreciate how it fits 10 envelopes in either direction (vertical or horizontal), helping maintain a clean, clutter-free living space.

Story

The Letter Box was created out of need after the makers repeatedly heard friends talk about not having good, attractive places to put things. Intrigued by simple forms and natural palettes as well as creating art that’s both functional and visually appealing, they set out to make something simple that would complement any environment in which it sits and that could be used to safeguard basic household items. The clean lines of this box are constructed with custom-cut bookboard, wrapped in paperbacked buckram bookcloth weaved in the United States. Handmade to order, all Candor Arts products come with a card with a “made on” date for reference. Measures 5.5” x 10” x 5”.

About the Maker

With the intention of living lives that include uplifting day jobs, Matt Austin and Ally Hasche started Candor Arts in Los Angeles in an effort to dedicate time and energy to creating simple, functional, yet attractive pieces with clean lines and natural tones. Putting great thought and expression into their line of handmade books, boxes and other household items, the objects they design and produce are high-quality and crafted with the hope of inspiring honest expression.
