A ceramic and glazed white and black bell available in three sizes
This contemporary indoor or outdoor wheel thrown bell is decorated with phases of the moon painted in a matte black glaze finish. We love the sharp black and white contrast and the craftsmanship of this piece: The bell is hung from hemp rope with a reclaimed wood knocker to sing the chime.
The moon and its phases influence life on earth and symbolize so many different aspects of it: rejuvenation, fertility, rebirth, and knowledge, to name a few. Using the spiritual and religious meaning of the moon as her foundation, the maker of this bell Michele Quan has captured some of the many moon phases and their meanings in this hand-painted depiction of the lunar cycle. Bells are said to pay homage to the present through sound. This bell will soothe and mesmerize in a home or sanctuary, inside or outside.
Michele Quan designs and sculpts handmade ceramic art and objects for the home and garden out of her studio in Brooklyn, New York. Religious symbols and Eastern iconography are articulated in Quan’s work as she finds their meaning and beauty a source of inspiration. Her ceramic pieces are crafted by hand, wheel thrown, or slip cast in stoneware and porcelain. Quan incorporates brass, hand-dyed cotton, felted wool, organically grown hemp rope and reclaimed wood into her art—each piece of which acts as a canvas for her love of drawing, painting, texture and color.
