A handmade porcelain bowl for serving, holding or displaying
This bowl is made from porcelain, pressed with natural linen to create a subtle pattern and texture. It’s then hand-shaped into a wide dish. Can be used as a serving or fruit bowl, or on an entry table to hold keys and change. Made by Japanese ceramicist Yuka Uchida, each bowl has slight variations due to its handmade nature. Lead-free, food-safe.
Ovo Ceramics brings modern design to the medium of porcelain, developed in China more than 2000 years ago. The name porcelain comes from the Italian porcellana meaning cowrie shell because it is translucent like seashells. Since it originally was developed in China, it’s often referred to as fine china. A gentle contrast is formed between the unglazed, satin matte exterior and the clear glazed interior. This bowl can be used everyday.
After studying architecture and fine art, then working in interior and product design, New York City-based Japanese artist Yuka Uchida founded Ovo Ceramics, a line of handmade porcelain tableware. The artist wanted to merge her passions for handcraft and product design, and in ceramics she found the ideal medium to do so. She is drawn to the natural texture, warm white color and flexibility of porcelain. A portion of every sale goes to All Hands Volunteers, a non-profit organization that provides hands-on support to survivors of natural disasters.
