An embroidered pillow made by a cooperative of Vietnamese artisans
Handmade in Vietnam, this cotton pillow cover is embroidered by Ly Ta May, an expert embroiderer, with rows of an organic vine pattern. Its rich surface texture reminds us of an ancient tapestry. This pillow case fits a standard-sized throw pillow form.
Elegant embroidery is stitched, honoring the styles and methods passed down from generation to generation. Made in a remote Vietnamese village by a cooperative of artisans led by Ly Ta May, the sale of this textile helps develop sustainable communities by providing income while maintaining their cultural traditions. The hidden zipper closure, allows for easy removal for spot cleaning.
Red Dao, named for the indigenous people of northern Vietnam, is an enterprise founded by Ly Ta May, a textile artisan and community leader. Based in the mountain village of Taphin, she works to create an international audience for selling her village’s goods, bringing them to local markets as well as the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Red Dao funnels her passion to help her community thrive and maintain their culture. Its business practices support her family as well as the women in her village.
