Multi-color, multi-strand 17-inch necklace available in two color combinations from Maasai craftswomen
The burgundy and salmon color blocks used to craft these necklaces and the triple-strand finish of white glass beads reflects the tradition of the Maasai people who craft these pieces. Every necklace made and sold impacts a life elsewhere on this planet.
Endito, translated in the tribal Maa language, means daughter. This collection of block-color beaded necklaces is inspired by the jewelry worn by the young girls-the daughters-in the Maasai tribe. They are the Enditos. The beauty of the necklace can be found in its simplicity, but also in the makers’ efforts to lift the burden of economic hardship for the Maasai people. This necklace represents the opportunity for the women collaborating to eventually lift themselves out of poverty. Like everything Sidai Designs crafts, this bracelet helps preserve the cultural identity and beading traditions of the Maasai tribe and creates sustainable incomes for urban Maasai women.
Sidai means good or beautiful in the Maasai tribal language, Maa. Sidai Designs is a socially driven enterprise with a workshop based in Arusha in Northern Tanzania that employs more than 50 Maasai women. The company creates contemporary luxury beaded jewelry, based on traditional Maasai beading techniques and artistry. Founded in 2011 as a non-profit, Sidai Designs supports Tanzanian Maasai women by providing economic empowerment, fair wages and by using fair trade practices. Sidai Designs is passionate in its mission to overcome poverty and improve women’s social standing; it also provides tremendous hope and a sense of purpose.
