Iron statues are ancient symbols of protection
All three poses of this serene cast iron figure—sleeping, praying and wrapped in a blanket— keep us company at the office, and not just as a paperweight, but also giving us a little peace and joy when we look at them. Place one or all of these sacred statues on any table, shelf or windowsill.
Handmade from cast iron by Japanese artisans, this object is as powerfully storied as it is charming. A symbol for the ease of suffering, this statue is of Jizo Bodhisattva, an ancient being who deferred his Buddhist studies in order to teach people about compassion and universal salvation. His red cloak is said to protect children, both born and unborn, and expectant mothers. Whether used as a paperweight, an altarpiece, or amid indoor plants or out in the garden, each figure is a reminder to practice mindfulness.
